Two days after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the Buffalo Bills by 33-20 on Sunday, the Bucs made an announcement on Tuesday that safety Jermaine Phillips was placed on injured reserve and will stay there for the remainder of the season because of thumb injury caused during the Sunday’s game.
Even before Phillips was injured, the Buccaneers had been playing without starting safety Tanard Jackson, who was issued a four-game suspension by the NFL for violating subtonic abuse policy. And Phillips originally entered training camp to replace Derrick Brooks as starter at weakside linebacker after Brooks was released during the offseason.
After Jackson was suspended, Phillips was moved to safety and had 11 tackles in Tampa Bay’s first two games. And losing Phillips just weakened the Bucs’ struggling secondary. By so far, the team still has two roster spots to fill, and on this Sunday, they will host a game against the New York Giants. So before that, they have to find two more players to put on buccaneers jersey.
