Former Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk will put on the New York Jets jersey after signing a one-year contract with the Jets, who also have signed free agent offensive tackle Michael Turkovich, a former Notre Dame standout working with Cowboys last summer.
It seems that signing Folk was a much more important move than signing Turkovich, who joined Cowboys as an undrafted free agent but was not able to play any formal game because he was released after injuring a knee. Of course he may prove that he is a valuable player after some time, but at the moment in this blog, the focus is on Folk.
Folk will give the Jest some insurance in case incumbent kicker Jay Feely becomes an unrestricted free agent and chooses to join another team. Even if Feely is signed back by the Jets, Folk’s existence can still offer competition in camp. While Feely was 30 for 36 on field-goal attempts this past season, Folk was selected to Pro Bowl when he was a rookie in 2007. Although he made just 18 of 28 field-goal attempts last season and was released by the Cowboys, he can add Jets’ confidence with the position.
