Veteran DT Kenny Smith will miss another season

While he was still looking for a job with a new NFL team, the former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Kenny Smith had to surrender to his fate again and stay out of the league for another season. Tearing his Achilles tendon during a workout, Smith will undergo a surgery on Monday, another tough blow to the 33 years old veteran.

Being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 2001 as a third-round draft pick, Smith stayed with the team for only three seasons from 2001 to 2004 before missing five entire NFL seasons from 2004 to 2009. Returning to play for the Chiefs in 2009 season, he was excited on finally getting back to the league. However, he achieved nothing except for 2 solo tackles in the six games he played with the team. So it was no surprise when the Chiefs let him go at the beginning of this offseason.

During this offseason, Smith had made visit to several NFL teams including the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders with hope to get a new job. After being rejected by all the teams, he was often seen in an Archie Manning jersey and working out on his own. His agent Paul Sheehy told reporters after the injury that they might have to give up all efforts because of the injury and upcoming surgery, and it would be very unlikely for Smith to return during the 2010 season.

Bills RB Lynch learned to accept reality

After spending most of the offseason on requiring for a trade to another team, the Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch now has a good knowledge that a trade is unlikely to happen to him and he will have to remain with the Bills for at least another season. Accepting the reality, Lynch now said that he is turning attention back on ball.

"I'm here, and I'm going to be here," Lynch told ESPN.com. "I'm in the mix. I'm cool. I see things getting better for us as a group, we all complement each other, I feel. You got a couple backs that just fly. You got some backs that'll just bruise. And then you got backs that can do it all. With all of them on the field, it's endless, the amount of production that you can see. But one thing about us all, we're all going to ball."

Accepting the reality also means that Lynch will have to stay calm for playing a supplementary role behind Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller. He may have a lot of time to sit at side line in his beloved Archie Manning jersey and watch starter or backup playing. At age 24, he still has time to wait for his turn, but he needs playing time to prove his talents and playing skills. Perhaps he will get new chance next season when the Bills find him really expendable or lose one of Jackson and Spiller.

Archie Manning said Favre’s return was expectable

While many people are discussion with excitement about Brett Favre’s ankle surgery and his possible return, former New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning said it was nothing new to him as he always believed that Favre would return to the Vikings for 2010 season and the surgery was just expectable.

Watching 40-year-old Favre lead the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship game against his former team New Orleans Saints, Archie Manning saw Favre’s potential to continue with his brilliant performance even if he is older than most of his teammates and some coaches. Although the Vikings finally lost the NFC title to the Saints after the overtime loss, Archie Manning still believed that Favre could lead his team to win if the two teams rematch when the quarterback is 100 percent healthy.

The rematch is really going to happen in early September for the 2010 NFL season opener. Since knowing the schedule, Archie Manning has had the belief that Favre would return to make the revenge on Saints. He will prove that he is still able to win a Super Bowl ring at an NFL retirement age. As a former star quarterback himself, Archie Manning knows well what Favre is able to do with a strong sense of honor. As for the time of Favre’s retirement, Archie Manning joked that he is not expecting Favre, originally a Saints fan, to put on his favorite Archie Manning jersey watching others playing football in near future.
