Broncos offered high tender to WR Marshall

According to reports by ESPN, the Denver Broncos have assigned a first-round tender to Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who is turning to be a free agent on Friday. Such an offer opens up potential trade scenarios for teams in need of a big downfield target, such as the Baltimore Ravens.

With that tender placed on him, Marshall could still choose which team’s NFL jersey to wear for 2010 season, but the Broncos will have the right to match any offer or ask for a first-round draft pick as compensation. After Marshall sets his choice, the Broncos would have seven days to make their decision on which kind of compensation to take.

The Broncos could also field trade offers for Marshall to keep him with the team. But I guess to club would prefer to have a first-round draft pick of a package of picks.

Another two free agents also received first-round tenders from the Broncos: quarterback Kyle Orton and offensive guard Chris Kuper. Tight end Tony Scheffler received a second-round tender.

Broncos are open to possible return of WR Marshall

According to the Denver Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels, who benched wide receiver Brandon Marshall and tight end Tony Scheffler at the end of 2009 season, the Broncos will not rule out both Marshall and Scheffler wearing back Broncos jerseys for 2010 season.

“They played an important role on our team this year,” McDaniels said. “I don’t see how that has to change. Obviously there are some things that will go into this going forward. There’s no question in my mind that it could happen.”

McDaniel said he had not had any discussion with Marshall about his career future, but the receiver has recently said that he was willing to return to Denver for 2010 season but also remains open to offers from other teams. McDaniels did say that there would be a conversation with agents and players in near future.

Statements will be delivered on murder of Broncos CB Williams

The late Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams had no chance to tell who murdered him, but there has been a suspect, who will have a chance to argue in the case to convince people he was innocent.

The suspect named Willie Clark is charged with first-degree murder but insists that he is innocent and opening arguments are set for him on trial for the drive-by shooting death of Williams. The incident happened on New Year’s Day 2007, and Williams got fatal shots in his limousine from a man in an SUV.

A very important reason for Clark to be accused of committing the murder was that he was among the group that got into an altercation at a Denver nightclub with a group of NFL players wearing Broncos jerseys that include Williams.

There have been also reports that Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who was also in the group of Broncos players, wants to leave Denver because of what happened to Williams.

Broncos RB Buckhalter was doubtful for Sunday’s game with sprained ankle

Already missing all of this week’s practices because of a sprained ankle, the Denver Broncos running back Correll Buckhalter may also miss the Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders, so the team decided to list him as doubtful for Sunday’s game.

But he is not the only one with the possibility of missing the game. Safety Renaldo Hill has been sitting out all week together with Buckhalter because of an ankle injury, too, and he is also very likely to miss the game against the Raiders. Cornerback Ty Law is listed as questionable, having a bit more chance to wear back his Broncos jersey and play as he returned to practice on Friday after missing two workouts to take care of injured hamstring.

Rookie running back Knowshon Moreno, who has a less severe ankle injury, is probable to play this Sunday after taking part in his second straight full practice Friday, so was Elvis Dumervil, who missed Wednesday’s workout with a toe injury.

Broncos WR Marshall fully in practice but unclear for preseason debut

The Denver Broncos Tuesday practice was the team’s first workout since last Saturday’s exhibition game against the Seattle Seahawks. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall was fully involved in the practice; however, Coach Josh McDaniels still did not feel like giving him confirmed status on Sunday’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears.

McDaniels said it was too early to say whether Marshall would make his debut in Sunday’s game even if the Bears have been ready to have former Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler play in the exhibition.

“We’ll find out as we go through the week,” McDaniels said. “When the players are ready to play, they’ll play.”

Having conflict with McDaniels, Marshall had missed majority of Broncos practices this offseason. The Pro Bowl receiver has spent his time on seeking a new contract and asking to be traded after the Broncos did not act on the contract request. He did not take part in any of the Broncos preseason games yet, missing exhibition opener against San Francisco with an injury and being kept out of the Seattle exhibition.

The Broncos put Marshall on the latest depth chart as a No. 1 receiver, however, they also limited him largely to scout team duties after Marshall told reporters that he had not been up to speed on the new playbook. So it is really hard to say whether Marshall has been ready for his preseason debut while McDaniels said that the team is “getting ready to play the season.”

Broncos WR Marshall will probably get used to his situation

Recovered from his hip injury, Brandon Marshall participated in the Denver Broncos Wednesday practice with the scout team. It seemed that he will probably stay on field without change even though he continued to be disgruntled with team management and his current contract.

That is good for the team. The Broncos seemed neither wanting the receiver to leave nor giving him a new contract. Since Marshall is still playing with them on the field, the Broncos is willing to put up with whatever he says.

As for Marshall himself, he knows well about his current situation and had to get used to it because of his off-the-field issues and his injured hip. Change is not possible, and he will just have to accept the current contract which will pay him $2.198 million this season.

RB Moreno impressed Broncos' veterans with his good catching

On Broncos depth chart, RB Knowshon Moreno is behind LaMont Jordan and Correll Buchhalter, but his recent performance showed that he will be probably ahead of the two in near future.

Here is a comment made by the Broncos veteran Buckhalter to the Denver Post:

"I like the kid. He can catch good, he's got good foot quickness, I think he's going to be a heck of a player in this league."

Moreno was making a move for the first team last weekend. During a drill with the first team, Moreno caught a TD pass from Chris Simms, which impressed the Broncos' veterans.
